Abdomen

A Problem of Excess

The abdomen and trunk are the areas most commonly affected by the large amounts of excess skin that follows weight loss. The overhanging abdominal and pubic skin is unsightly, affects the fit of clothing. It may also cause health problems such as skin irritation and infection. There may also be some remaining fat in this area, despite a patient being at their goal weight. Patients who have been pregnant will also have some degree of muscle looseness and bulging, a procedure called abdominoplasty might help. The buttocks and hip areas may also have loose or overhanging skin plus excess fat that prevents patients from wearing shorts or other summer attire. When this condition is present, there will often be laxity and very uneven skin texture of the outer and inner thighs.

One Incision, Many Uses
In the past, each of these problem areas were corrected by a separate operation, such as a tummy tuck, buttock lift, and thigh lift. Dr. LoMonaco’s preference is to provide a correction of as many areas as possible through a single incision and at one surgery.

This allows the patient to experience a correction of many issues at once, with only one downtime, one period of time off work, and one exposure to anesthesia.

Before After
“Before and after lower body lift plus hernia repair and construction of new belly button. Note improved skin texture and complete removal of all overhanging skin.”
A Lower Body Lift is an advanced operation that can treat all of the conditions above. It is always custom tailored to meet the needs of the individual patient. A lower body lift includes:

  • Tummy tuck
  • Buttock Lift
  • Front thigh lift
  • Outer thigh lift
  • Pubic reduction
  • Liposuction of all areas
  • New belly button
  • Removal of lower abdominal scars
Before After
“Excess abdominal hip, thigh, and buttock skin can betreated at one operation with a lower body lift. The inner thighs are often treated at a separate operation.”
Combining Surgeries
In most cases, an inner thigh lift is performed separately because of the number and location of incisions in the area. However, depending on the patient, it may be done along with a lower body lift.In some cases, a lower body lift can even be combined with other procedures such as breast or arm surgery.Recovery for this surgery involves a 1-3 day stay in the hospital in most cases. You will be allowed to walk around after the first day, and can shower and eat as you like by the second or third day. At home, you will wear a special garment to heold your new shape, and will not be allowed to do any prolonged sitting. 2 drain tubes are usually placed during the operation, and they remain in place for about 10 days. Your first visit with the doctor is about 7 days from your discharge.
